South Dakota Appliance Installation Contractor License
The South Dakota Plumbing Commission issues the Appliance Installation Contractor specialty license to businesses that contract for the installation of plumbing-connected and gas appliances. This specialty license covers appliance hookups that involve plumbing or gas connections.
What This License Authorizes
An Appliance Installation Contractor may enter into contracts and perform installation of plumbing-connected appliances such as water heaters, dishwashers, garbage disposals, and gas appliances including ranges, dryers, and furnaces.
Application Requirements
Applicants must pass the specialty examination and demonstrate relevant experience. An experience verification form signed by a licensed contractor is required.

Renewal
Licenses are renewed annually. Contact the commission at SDPlumbing@state.sd.us or 605.773.3429 for current renewal fee amounts.
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing appliance installation work without a valid license is a Class 2 misdemeanor under SDCL 36-25. Penalties include fines and potential criminal prosecution.
