Detailed notes

The fine print is here.

Nevada A-10 Pool Contractor License

Pool and spa construction in Nevada requires an A-10 classification license from the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB). Without it, any contract you sign is unenforceable — and third-offense violations become a Class E felony under NRS 624.700.

What the A-10 Authorizes

An A-10 license covers construction, alteration, and repair of commercial and residential swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, and their associated plumbing, electrical connections, decking, and finishing work. Both residential backyard pools and large commercial and resort-scale pool complexes fall under this classification.

Bond Requirements — Two Separate Obligations

NSCB sets your general contractor bond at $1,000 to $500,000 based on your monetary limit and financial history. Pool and spa contractors also carry a separate consumer protection bond of $10,000 to $400,000. Both must be on file before your license activates.

Renewal — $600 Biennial

Your A-10 license renews every two years at $600. Missing the renewal deadline triggers a $150 late fee. Submit renewals through the NSCB online portal at nvcontractorsboard.com/licensing/license-renewals using your license number and Nevada Business ID.

Getting Licensed — Experience and Exams

Applicants must document at least four full years of experience in the trade within the preceding 15 years. NSCB requires passing two exams administered by PSI: the Business and Law (CMS) exam and the A-10 trade exam. Schedule both through test-takers.psiexams.com/nvcon.

Unlicensed Work — Criminal Penalties Under NRS 624.750

Operating without a valid A-10 license is a misdemeanor on the first offense, punishable by a fine of $1,000 to $4,000 and up to six months in jail (NRS 624.750(2)(a)). A second offense is a gross misdemeanor; a third is a category E felony. Unlicensed contractors also forfeit the right to collect on any contract signed while unregistered.
