Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Nevada B-6 Commercial Remodeling License
Commercial remodeling in Nevada requires a B-6 classification license from the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB). The B-6 scope — as defined in NAC 624.170(6) — covers the remodeling and improvement of interior spaces in structures that support, shelter, or enclose persons, including multi-story commercial buildings. Residential remodeling of detached single-family homes falls under the separate B-7 classification.
Who Needs a B-6 vs. B-7
B-6 covers interior remodeling in commercial structures — buildings that support, shelter, or enclose persons or animals, as defined in NAC 624.170(6). If the work is inside an existing detached single-family residence that does not exceed three stories above ground, you fall under B-7 instead. Applying under the wrong classification means working unlicensed.
Bond Requirement
NSCB sets each licensee's bond in a range of $1,000 to $500,000 based on your monetary limit, financial history, and experience. The Board determines the exact amount at approval.
Renewal — $600 Biennial
Your B-6 license renews every two years at $600 (NAC 624.130). A late renewal triggers a $150 late filing fee. Log in through nvcontractorsboard.com/licensing/license-renewals using your license number and Nevada Business ID.
Getting Licensed — Experience and Exams
Applicants must document at least four full years of experience within the preceding 15 years as a journeyman, supervising employee, or contractor in the classification requested. NSCB requires passing two exams at PSI: the Business and Law (CMS) exam and the B-6 trade exam.
Criminal Penalties for Unlicensed Work — NRS 624.750
Operating without a valid B-6 license is a misdemeanor on first offense, punishable by a fine of $1,000 to $4,000 and up to six months in jail (NRS 624.750(2)(a)). A second offense is a gross misdemeanor; a third is a category E felony. Contracts signed while unlicensed are also unenforceable.
