Minnesota State Plumbing Contractor License


The Minnesota DLI licenses plumbing contractors statewide. A contractor license is required for any business performing plumbing installations or alterations.


Requirements


  • Experience: Must hold a master plumber license or employ a licensed master plumber
  • Examination: Must pass the plumbing contractor exam
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation required
  • Surety Bond: $25,000 surety bond required
  • Application Fee: $188

Continuing Education


  • Hours: 16 hours per renewal cycle (every 2 years)
  • Topics: Minnesota plumbing code updates, water heater safety, and backflow prevention
  • Providers: Approved by DLI
