Minnesota State Electrical Contractor License
The Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) licenses electrical contractors statewide. A contractor license is required for any business performing electrical installations or alterations.
Requirements
- Experience: Must hold a master electrician license or employ a licensed master electrician
- Examination: Must pass the electrical contractor exam
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation required
- Surety Bond: $25,000 surety bond required
- Application Fee: $188
Continuing Education
- Hours: 16 hours per renewal cycle (every 2 years)
- Topics: National Electrical Code updates, Minnesota amendments, and safety (at least 12 hours must relate to the NEC)
- Providers: Approved by DLI
