Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Kentucky Boiler and Pressure Vessel Contractor License
The Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction (DHBC) issues the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Contractor license under KRS 236 and 815 KAR 15:080. This license authorizes the holder to install, repair, and alter boilers and pressure vessels in Kentucky.
What This License Authorizes
A Boiler and Pressure Vessel Contractor may install, repair, and alter boilers and pressure vessels. The contractor must provide general supervision and is primarily responsible for all work performed by employees. A company may engage in the business if one person connected with the company holds a valid boiler contractor license.
Insurance
General liability insurance is not required for the contractor license under 815 KAR 15:080. Note that Owner Facilities under KRS 236 have separate GL requirements. Workers' compensation is required if you have employees per KRS Chapter 342.
Examination Requirements
Applicants must pass the boiler examination required by KRS 236.210 with a minimum score of 70 percent. A passing score is valid for three years.
Renewal Process
- Renewal Period: Annual (expires last day of birth month)
- Renewal Fee: $175
- Continuing Education: 6 hours annually from a DHBC-approved provider per 815 KAR 2:010
- Application Fee: $250 (initial)
- Grace Period: 60 days after expiration to file late renewal
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Installing or servicing boilers and pressure vessels without a valid DHBC license violates KRS 236. Penalties include fines, and unlicensed work may be ordered corrected or removed at the violator's expense.
