Indianapolis Electrical Contractor License


The City of Indianapolis Department of Business and Neighborhood Services (BNS) licenses electrical contractors working within Marion County. Indiana does not have a statewide electrical contractor license.

  • Examination: Must pass the city electrical contractor exam
  • Experience: Documented electrical trade experience

Scope of Work

Since Indiana lacks statewide electrical licensing, contractors must obtain separate licenses for each municipality where they work. Other Indiana cities such as Fort Wayne and Evansville have their own requirements.
