Georgia Utility Contractor License
Georgia requires a separate Utility Contractor license for contractors performing work on utility systems including water, sewer, gas, and electrical distribution systems. This license is administered by the Division of Professional Licensing under the Secretary of State.
Who Must Be Licensed
- Contractors installing or repairing water and sewer lines
- Contractors working on gas distribution systems
- Contractors installing electrical utility infrastructure
- Both prime contractors and subcontractors performing utility work
Requirements
- Examination: Must pass the utility contractor exam
- Experience: Minimum 3 years documented experience in utility construction
- Bond: $50,000 surety bond required
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
- Financial Statement: Current financial statement required
