Before you renew

Get the filing straight.

    Finish the CE first

    Complete the 8 required hours before you start the renewal.

    Check the insurance certificates

    Make sure the required policies are current and match what the board or agency expects before you file.

    File with the board

    File through Georgia Division of Master and Journeyman Plumbers and pay the $75.00 renewal fee once the supporting proof is ready.

    Typical processing time is 30 days, so do not wait until the last minute.

If you miss the deadline, the late penalty is $50.00, with a 31-day grace period.

Georgia Master Plumber License


The Master Plumber license is issued by the Georgia Division of Master and Journeyman Plumbers under the Secretary of State. A master plumber license is required to contract for plumbing work in Georgia.


Requirements


  • Experience: Must hold a Journeyman Plumber license and have documented supervisory experience
  • Examination: Must pass the Master Plumber examination
  • Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance required
  • Application: Submit through the GOALS online portal

Renewal Information


  • Renewal Period: Every 2 years (by November 30 of even-numbered years)
  • Renewal Fee: $75
  • Late Penalty: $50 for late renewal (December 1-31)
  • Continuing Education: 4 hours per year (8 total per renewal cycle), covering updates to the International Plumbing Code

  • Application Fee: $110

License Levels


  • Apprentice Plumber: Entry-level, works under supervision
  • Journeyman Plumber: Can perform plumbing work under a Master Plumber's supervision
  • Master Plumber: Can contract for and supervise all plumbing work

Master Plumbers can:

  • Contract for plumbing work independently
  • Supervise journeyman and apprentice plumbers
  • Install and repair water supply and drainage systems
  • Work on gas piping systems
  • Pull plumbing permits
