General Liability Insurance — Georgia
Georgia does not have a statutory minimum for general liability insurance for contractors, but most general contractors carry $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate as an industry standard. Many project owners and general contractors require proof of GL insurance before allowing work to proceed.
Key Points:
- Not state-mandated but effectively required for commercial work
- Most contracts require $1M/$2M minimum coverage
- Certificates of Insurance (COI) must name the project owner as additional insured
- Policy must be renewed annually
- Claims-made vs occurrence policies: occurrence is standard for construction
