Georgia Conditioned Air (HVAC) Contractor License
The Conditioned Air Contractor license is issued by the Georgia State Board of Conditioned Air Contractors under the Secretary of State. This license is required for any contractor performing HVAC work in Georgia.
Requirements
- Experience: Documented experience in HVAC installation and repair
- Examination: Must pass the Conditioned Air Contractor exam
- EPA Certification: Section 608 EPA certification required for refrigerant handling
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance
- Application Fee: $110
Renewal Information
- Renewal Period: Every 2 years (by November 30 of odd-numbered years)
- Renewal Fee: $100
- Late Penalty: $50 for late renewal (December 1-31)
- Continuing Education: 4 hours per year (8 total per renewal cycle)
- Processing Time: Applications processed within 20 business days
Scope of Work
Conditioned Air Contractors can:
- Install and repair air conditioning systems
- Install and repair heating systems
- Work on ventilation and ductwork
- Handle refrigerants (with EPA certification)
- Perform residential and commercial HVAC work
Important Notes
Reinstatement of a license expired for 3+ years requires a $310 reinstatement fee and may require re-examination. All applications must be submitted through the GOALS online portal.
