Florida Mold Remediator License
Florida's mold remediator license is for the cleanup side of the job. If you are removing, cleaning, sanitizing, demolishing, or otherwise treating mold or mold-contaminated material beyond the exemption limits, this is the license Florida expects. It is separate from the mold assessor license, and Florida does not let the same licensee or company assess and remediate the same structure within the statutory conflict period.
What the application really turns on
- Education or experience path: Florida allows either a qualifying two-year degree plus at least 1 year of field experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of documented field experience.
- Documented training: All applicants must submit proof of training in water intrusion, mold, and respiratory protection.
- Exam or endorsement path: Initial applicants by examination must pass a department-approved exam. Endorsement is available for substantially equivalent out-of-state licensees and for some long-time out-of-state license holders.
- Fingerprints: The application requires electronic fingerprints.
- Insurance: A mold remediator has to maintain at least $1,000,000 in general liability coverage with mold-related claims coverage.
Fees, renewal, and late status
- Initial application fee: $230.
- Renewal cycle: Every even year by July 31.
- Renewal fee: $105 for active renewal.
- Delinquent fee: If you miss the deadline, DBPR adds a $25 delinquent fee on top of the renewal amount.
- Continuing education: 14 hours of department-approved mold-related CE each biennium.
What this license actually covers
This license covers mold remediation only. If the job is still on the assessment side, Florida expects that work to be handled under the mold assessor license instead.
