Florida Mold Assessor License

Florida's mold assessor license is for the evaluation side of the work, not the cleanup side. If you are writing reports, interpreting sampling, or handling post-remediation assessment, this is the license Florida expects. It is separate from the mold remediator license, and Florida also prohibits the same licensee or company from assessing and remediating the same structure within the statutory conflict period.

What the application really turns on

• Education or experience path: Florida allows either a qualifying two-year degree plus at least 1 year of field experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of documented field experience.
• Documented training: All applicants must submit proof of training in water intrusion, mold, and respiratory protection.
• Exam or endorsement path: Initial applicants by examination must pass a department-approved exam. Endorsement is available for substantially equivalent out-of-state licensees and for some long-time out-of-state license holders.
• Fingerprints: The application requires electronic fingerprints.
• Insurance: A mold assessor has to maintain at least $1,000,000 in general liability and errors and omissions coverage for both preliminary and post-remediation assessment work.

Fees, renewal, and late status

• Initial application fee: $230.
• Renewal cycle: Every even year by July 31.
• Renewal fee: $105 for active renewal.
• Delinquent fee: If you miss the deadline, DBPR adds a $25 delinquent fee on top of the renewal amount.
• Continuing education: 14 hours of department-approved mold-related CE each biennium.

What this license actually covers

This license covers mold assessment only. The remediator performs the cleanup. Florida keeps those scopes separate on purpose.
