Detailed notes

The fine print is here.

Florida Certified Elevator Inspector

Florida's Certified Elevator Inspector license is its own credential. It is not the same as the company registration, and it is not just a technician license with inspection authority added on top. The state ties this license to a qualified elevator inspector credential and separate insurance requirements.

What the application really turns on

  • Qualified elevator inspector credential: Florida requires the applicant to hold a QEI credential recognized under the ASME-based framework the bureau references.
  • Accepted credentialing entities: The bureau points applicants to NAESAI and the Qualified Elevator Inspector Training Fund for the national inspector credential.
  • Insurance: Elevator inspectors must carry general liability insurance in a minimum amount of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence.

Renewal and role

  • Renewal cycle: Annual through the Bureau of Elevator Safety.
  • Role: This is the inspection credential for vertical conveyances. It is separate from the technician registration and separate from the registered elevator company credential.

Where people confuse it

A Certified Elevator Inspector can inspect regulated conveyances, but that does not collapse the rest of the licensing structure. The company registration, permits, and owner-side Certificate of Operation still have their own rules.
