Connecticut Solar Thermal Contractor License (ST-1)


The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) issues the ST-1 Solar Thermal Contractor license, which authorizes the holder to install, repair, replace, and maintain solar thermal systems. This license is administered by the Heating, Piping, Cooling, Sheet Metal and Solar Work Examining Board.


What This License Authorizes


ST-1 license holders may perform, supervise, and contract for solar thermal system installations, including solar hot water heaters, solar pool heating systems, and other solar thermal collectors and associated piping and storage systems.


Examination and Experience Requirements


Applicants must pass written examinations administered by the DCP covering solar thermal system design, installation, and Connecticut regulations. Applicants must have at least two years of experience as a licensed solar journeyperson or equivalent experience and training in solar thermal systems.


Continuing Education


Connecticut does not currently require continuing education for Solar Thermal license holders.

Consequences of Operating Without a License


Performing solar thermal work without a valid DCP license is a Class B misdemeanor in Connecticut, punishable by up to six months in prison, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
