Vermont Specialist Electrician (Type S) License


The Vermont Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Safety issues the Specialist Electrician (Type S) license for electricians who work within a defined specialty field. The fee of $115 applies per specialty field on the license.


Requirements


Applicants must complete a one-year training program and accumulate 2,000 hours of full-time work experience in their specialty, or alternatively demonstrate 4,000 hours (two years) of documented electrical work experience. All candidates must pass the specialist examination.

Continuing Education


8 hours of continuing education are required every 3-year renewal cycle for Type S license holders, covering relevant code updates and safety practices.

Penalties for Unlicensed Work


Performing electrical work without a valid Vermont license carries fines of up to $500 per offense. The Division of Fire Safety may issue stop-work orders.
