Vermont Fire Sprinkler Systems Contractor (T3)
The Vermont Department of Public Safety, Division of Fire Safety issues the T3 — Fire Sprinkler Systems certification. This certification is required for contractors who install, maintain, repair, or test fire sprinkler and standpipe systems in Vermont, including private above-ground fire mains and fire pumps.
Scope of Work
T3-certified contractors may perform installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of fire sprinkler and standpipe systems, private above-ground fire mains, and fire pumps. Systems must be designed and installed in accordance with applicable NFPA standards.
Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate qualification through either:
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in fire sprinkler installation, OR
- Four years of documented, supervised experience in fire sprinkler systems work
A Vermont Energy Goals educational module must be completed by all new applicants after July 1, 2021.

- Renewal Fee: $50
Continuing Education
15 hours of continuing education are required every 3-year renewal cycle.

Penalties for Unlicensed Work
Performing fire sprinkler work without T3 certification violates the Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code. The Division of Fire Safety may issue stop-work orders and take enforcement action.
