Pittsburgh Master Plumber License
The master plumber credential used for plumbing work in Pittsburgh runs through the Allegheny County Health Department Plumbing Program, not Pittsburgh PLI.
Requirements
- Examination: Must pass the Master Plumber examination ($265 per exam)
- Experience: Must complete two full years of work experience as a journeyman before applying for the master exam
- Insurance: Carry whatever insurance and business documentation the Plumbing Program requires for active practice

Journeyman Plumber Path
Before pursuing a master plumber license, candidates must:
- Complete the journeyman path and required employment history
- Pass the Journeyman Plumber examination ($133 per exam)
- Renew the journeyman credential annually on the plumber's date of birth for $125
