North Dakota Water Conditioning Installer License
The North Dakota State Plumbing Board issues the Water Conditioning Installer license under NDCC Chapter 43-18.1. This is the working-level license for individuals who physically install and repair water conditioning equipment under contractor supervision.
What This License Authorizes
Water Conditioning Installers may install, alter, and repair water treatment and conditioning equipment including water softeners, filtration systems, reverse osmosis systems, and similar devices. Installers work under the supervision of a licensed water conditioning contractor.
Experience and Examination Requirements
Applicants must complete one year (1,900 hours) of apprenticeship experience under a licensed water conditioning contractor in North Dakota, or complete an accredited 9-month plumbing trade school course (1,020+ hours), or hold a valid installer license from a state with reciprocity. Applicants must pass the state examination with a score of 70% or higher.

Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing water conditioning installation work without a valid license is a violation under NDCC 43-18.1. The Board may impose fines and refer violations for prosecution.
