North Dakota Journeyman Plumber License
The North Dakota State Plumbing Board issues the Journeyman Plumber license to individuals who have completed a plumbing apprenticeship and passed the state journeyman examination. This is the standard working plumber license in North Dakota.
What This License Authorizes
Journeyman Plumbers may install, alter, and repair plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings under the supervision of a master plumber or independently within their scope. They work on water supply, drainage, waste, and vent piping systems.
Examination Requirements
Applicants must pass the North Dakota journeyman plumber examination. Applicants must have completed a state-recognized plumbing apprenticeship program with the required hours of supervised experience.

- Late Renewal Penalty: $50
Continuing Education
- 4 hours per two-year cycle (by December 31 of even-numbered years)
- Courses must be approved by the North Dakota State Plumbing Board

- Continuing Education: 4 hours per two-year cycle must be completed
- Lapsed License: Licenses expired for over one year may require retaking the state plumbing exam
Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing plumbing work without a valid license is a Class B misdemeanor under NDCC 43-18. The Board may revoke or suspend licenses and impose fines.
