North Dakota Class B Electrician License

The North Dakota State Electrical Board (NDSEB) issues the Class B Electrician license for individuals performing electrical wiring work in rural farmsteads and residential settings in cities with a population of 2,500 or fewer. This is a distinct license from the journeyman electrician license and is restricted to a specific geographic and construction scope.

What This License Authorizes

Class B Electricians may perform farmstead wiring and residential wiring in one-family or two-family dwellings in municipalities with populations of 2,500 or fewer. This license may be held in contracting status for qualifying rural and small-town work. It does not authorize work in larger cities, multi-family buildings, or commercial and industrial electrical systems.

Examination Requirements

Applicants must pass the NDSEB Class B examination. Applicants must demonstrate 18 months and 3,000 hours of experience specifically in farmstead or residential wiring. Commercial electrical experience does not count toward this requirement.

  • Reinstatement Fee: $40 (equal to annual fee for expired licenses)
