Applicants must pass the Mississippi Law and Business Management exam administered by PSI. Each exam costs $120 and requires a score of 70% to pass. Trade-specific exams may also be required depending on the specialty.

Consequences of Operating Without a License
Performing commercial specialty trade work in Mississippi without a valid MSBOC license is a misdemeanor, carrying fines from $100 to $5,000 per offense and/or imprisonment of 30 to 60 days. Unlicensed contractors lose mechanics lien rights and cannot pursue legal action to collect payment.
Late renewals incur a $50 penalty fee
