Detailed notes

Missouri Master Plumber License
Missouri does not have a statewide plumbing license. Plumbing licensing is regulated at the city and county level by local Boards of Plumbing Examiners per RSMo Chapter 341. Cities with populations over 15,000 require plumber certification by state statute.
Requirements
- Age: Must be at least 25 years old (RSMo 341.170)
- Experience: At least 3 years as a licensed journeyman plumber
- Examination: Must pass the Master Plumber exam administered by local board
- Insurance: RSMo Chapter 341 does not mandate general liability or workers' compensation insurance as a condition of licensure. Some local jurisdictions may impose their own insurance requirements.
- Application Fee: $10 (RSMo 341.180)
Renewal Information
- Renewal Period: Annually (RSMo 341.180)
- Renewal Fee: $10 (RSMo 341.180)
- No State CE Requirement: Missouri statute does not mandate continuing education at the state level; some cities (e.g., St. Louis) require local CE
- Lapsed License: Failure to renew requires re-examination
Scope of Work
Master plumbers can install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems within their licensed jurisdiction. Licensing is handled at the city/county level and does not automatically transfer between jurisdictions.
Local Licensing Structure
Missouri does not regulate plumbing at the state level. Each city and county maintains its own Board of Plumbing Examiners with varying requirements. Contractors must obtain separate licenses for each jurisdiction where they work. Some cities impose additional fees beyond the statutory $10.
