Michigan Boiler Contractor License
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) licenses boiler contractors under the Boiler Act. A valid license is required to install, repair, and maintain boilers and pressure vessels.
Requirements
- Examination: Must pass the Michigan boiler contractor exam
- Experience: Documented boiler installation and maintenance experience
- Insurance: General liability and workers' compensation insurance are not required by LARA for licensure, but are recommended
- Application Fee: $200
Renewal Information
- Renewal Period: Every 3 years
- Renewal Fee: $100
- Late Penalty: $75 additional fee
- Grace Period: 60 days after expiration
Scope of Work
Licensed boiler contractors may install, alter, repair, and maintain boilers and unfired pressure vessels in commercial and industrial buildings throughout Michigan.

Installing or repairing boilers without a valid license is subject to fines and enforcement action by LARA.
