Submit new BTR applications and renewals online through the City of Ocala eTRAKiT portal at https://ocal.csqrcloud.com/community-etrakit/. New users must create an account before submitting. For assistance, contact the Business Licensing office at licensing@ocalafl.gov or (352) 629-8487. Office hours: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., lobby hours 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 201 SE 3rd Street (2nd Floor), Ocala, FL 34471.
Annual Business Tax Receipt runs October 1 – September 30. All BTR renewals are due annually by September 30. Contact the Business Licensing office at licensing@ocalafl.gov or (352) 629-8487 to confirm current processing times, as they vary depending on whether zoning approval is required.
Delinquency penalties begin October 1 per FL Statute 205.053 (tiered monthly penalties capped at a maximum). FL Statute 205.053(3) imposes an additional statewide civil penalty if the business tax remains unpaid 150 days after initial notice of tax due — this is self-executing and does not require the City of Ocala to expressly invoke it in local ordinance. Contact the Business Licensing office at licensing@ocalafl.gov or (352) 629-8487 for current penalty amounts.
YourStanding must not calculate the BTR fee — fees vary by business type and are set by City ordinance; contact the Business Licensing office at licensing@ocalafl.gov or (352) 629-8487 to confirm the current applicable fee.
Businesses that are exempt from the BTR include: non-profit organizations, veteran-owned and operated businesses, business owners who are 65 or older, and businesses with a physical address located outside Ocala city limits (confirmed verbatim from official City FAQ).
Marion County does NOT require a separate companion business tax receipt — Marion County repealed its Occupational License Ordinance effective October 1, 2006. Unlike most other Florida cities, there is no county companion BTR for businesses operating in Ocala.
Per Florida Statute 205.065, a DBPR-regulated contractor who has already paid local business tax to the Florida county or municipality where their permanent business location or branch office is maintained is exempt from an Ocala BTR for work or services performed on a temporary or transitory basis.
