Annual Business Tax Receipt runs October 1 – September 30. All Business Tax Receipts should be renewed on or before September 30 to avoid additional fees. Delinquency begins October 1 and penalties escalate monthly per Miramar Code Sec. 11-32.
FL Statute 205.053(3) authorizes a statewide penalty if the business tax remains unpaid for an extended period after initial notice — this is statewide/self-executing and does not require the City of Miramar to expressly invoke it in local ordinance.
Commercial businesses must obtain a City of Miramar Certificate of Use from the Community and Economic Development, Building Division before applying for a Business Tax Receipt. Contact the Building Division to confirm Certificate of Use requirements.
Contractors must exhibit an active State certificate, registration, or license at application and renewal per Florida Statute 205.194. Contractors in certain categories listed in Miramar Code Sec. 11-41 (well drilling, building raising or moving, caisson work, conduit work, cranes/derricks/power shovels, electric line construction, excavation, grading, land filling, pile driving, road construction, paving, water main/sewer construction) must also file a minimum liability insurance bond with the city before a receipt is issued — contact the Business Tax office at 954-602-3061 to confirm the current required amount.
A separate Broward County Local Business Tax Receipt is required from the Office of Abbey Ajayi, Broward Constitutional Tax Collector (https://browardtax.org/). Both follow the October 1 – September 30 fiscal year.
YourStanding must not calculate the BTR fee — fees are determined by business classification per the city's annual Schedule of User Fees; contact the Business Tax office at 954-602-3061 to confirm the applicable fee for your classification.
