Annual Business Tax Receipt runs October 1 – September 30. Renew on or before September 30 to avoid delinquency penalties. Delinquency penalties begin October 1 per FL Statute 205.053 — contact the Business Services Division at (305) 224-4504 to confirm the current delinquency schedule.
FL Statute 205.053(3) imposes an additional statewide civil penalty if the business tax remains unpaid 150 days after initial notice of tax due — this is self-executing and does not require Homestead to expressly invoke it in local ordinance. Contact the Business Services Division at (305) 224-4504 for the current penalty amount.
YourStanding must not calculate the BTR fee — fees were updated by Ordinance No. 2025-09-26 (eff. September 9, 2025) and vary by business type; contact the Business Services Division at (305) 224-4504 or businesslicensing@homesteadfl.gov to confirm the current applicable fee.
Contractors operating within Homestead must register annually through the EPL-B.U.I.L.D system (https://cityofhomesteadfl-energovweb.tylerhost.net/apps/selfservice#/home) as of October 1, 2025 — this is a separate requirement from the BTR. Required documents include the BTR number, EIN, DBPR state license, and Certificate of Insurance. Contact eplnotifications@homesteadfl.gov for EPL-B.U.I.L.D correspondence.
A separate Miami-Dade County Local Business Tax Receipt is required from the Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector (mdctaxcollector.gov). Renew online via BTExpress at https://miamidade.county-taxes.com/btexpress (Miami-Dade BTExpress renewal portal). Both the city and county receipts follow the October 1 – September 30 fiscal year.
New businesses must obtain a Miami-Dade County Certificate of Use via the Environmental Resources Portal (miamidade.gov/Apps/RER/EPSPortal) and DERM approval before the city BTR can be issued. Contact the Business Services Division to schedule an appointment and confirm current application requirements.
