Detailed notes
The fine print is here.
Delaware Master HVACR Restricted License
The Master HVACR Restricted license authorizes HVACR work in a single specialty — the right choice for technicians focused on one discipline who do not need the full unrestricted scope. Working outside your licensed specialty violates Title 24, Chapter 18 and can result in license revocation.
Choose One Specialty at Application
Delaware offers six restricted specialties:
- Heating – Forced Air Systems (includes ventilation and gas piping)
- Heating – Hydronic Systems (includes gas piping)
- Commercial Hood Systems
- Refrigeration
- Air Conditioning
- Gas Piping
Your license covers only the chosen specialty. To work across multiple disciplines — or to add specialties later — you must upgrade to the Master HVACR (unrestricted) license.
Experience, Exam, and CFC Certification
Same requirements as the Master HVACR license:
- With journeyman certificate: Apprenticeship completion plus 2 years under a master licensee
- Without journeyman certificate: 7 years under a master licensee
- CT or MD license holders: Reciprocity accepted without additional experience
Pass the restricted specialty exam at 70% or higher. CFC certification is required if your chosen specialty is refrigeration or air conditioning.
Fees and Late Penalty
- License fee: $173 (application and renewal)
- Renewal cycle: Every 2 years, expires October 31 of even-numbered years
- Late renewal penalty: $86.50 (50% of the renewal fee); late renewals accepted up to 1 year past expiration
CE Requirement Starting 2026
5 hours of continuing education required beginning with the October 31, 2026 renewal cycle. Renew online through DELPROS at dpr.delaware.gov/boards/plumbers/renew.
