Renew through the TTX online portal at etaxstatement.sfgov.org. You need your seven-digit Business Account Number, the last four digits of your Federal Tax ID, and your Online PIN.
The current fiscal year runs April 1 through March 31; renewal is due by the last day of February each year. The 2025–26 year was a nine-month transition under Proposition M.
If your Online PIN is lost, request a new one via the TTX Business Tax PIN Request page. TTX will email it to a secure email address or mail it to the address on file — allow three to five business days.
A physical Business Registration Certificate is mailed mid-March to businesses that renewed by the February deadline with no outstanding balances and a current mailing address on file.
If it lapses
Renewing after it expires.
This renewal has a separate path once it lapses.
A late penalty may apply in this jurisdiction. Confirm the current amount directly with the agency.
- San Francisco's Business Registration Certificate has no separate reinstatement process. A lapsed registration is brought current through the same online TTX portal used for timely renewal.
- The portal automatically calculates late fees, interest, and administrative charges when you file after the deadline — the full amount owed appears on the Obligation Summary before you submit.
- No physical Business Registration Certificate is mailed to late filers. Download and save the renewal confirmation from the portal's payment page immediately after completing payment — this is your earliest available proof of current registration.
- If your Online PIN is lost, request a new one through the TTX Business Tax PIN Request page. TTX will email it to a secure email address or mail it to the address on file — allow three to five business days before attempting to renew.
- Late fees may apply — check the official portal for current amounts. There is no grace period after the February deadline and no reduction for first-time late filers.
- A penalty waiver may be requested if the late filing was due to circumstances genuinely beyond your control. TTX explicitly excludes: non-receipt of notices, forgetting to file, and being a first-time late filer. Submit through the TTX penalty waiver form if circumstances warrant.
