Arkansas Journeyman Plumber License
In Arkansas, the journeyman plumber license is the credential that lets you work in the trade once you have enough experience to test, but before you move up to master plumber. The Department of Health, Plumbing and Natural Gas Section still treats it as a supervised license, so the real gate is whether your experience record is clean enough to get you to the exam without delay.
What usually holds up the application
The current journeyman application requires a $75 application fee and a separate $75 license fee. Arkansas says an applicant needs at least four years of plumbing and natural-gas experience, or an equivalent background the Committee of Plumbing Examiners accepts. Apprentices coming through the Arkansas training path use the release form from the training program and OSD, while applicants licensed elsewhere need Arkansas's license-verification paperwork or equivalent evidence from the issuing program.
Renewal timing to keep in view
Arkansas journeyman plumber licenses expire annually on December 31. The rules say the license should be renewed by February 1, and after February 1 the state adds a $5 per month late penalty. Arkansas does not impose continuing education for journeyman plumber renewal in the licensing rules reviewed for this pass.
How the license fits the trade ladder
A journeyman plumber can handle day-to-day plumbing work under the general supervision of a master plumber. If you are building toward the master exam, Arkansas's rules also say you need at least one year holding an active journeyman plumber license as part of the master-plumber eligibility path.
Practical takeaway
The friction point is usually not the fee. It is the experience file. If the apprenticeship release, work-history proof, or out-of-state verification is incomplete, the delay usually shows up when the exam request is reviewed.
